Bowling Tips to Improve Your Score
To improve your score when bowling you will need some helpful bowling tips that will not disappoint. When your back-swing reaches higher than your shoulder you always encounter problems, because your follow-through will be negatively affected. Also, do not waste time posing as if you are being photographed.
In order to release the ball you need to know how to do a proper back swing, just as it is to know what to do in the follow-through.
Many people tend to have high back-swings and it makes one wonder who would be injured, or worse, if the ball slipped from their fingers. Perspiration can affect a person’s grasp after all.
Of course, losing the ball and injuring someone is not the only concern when it comes to a high back-swing. The main problem comes from the fact that a high back-swing can result in you making a mistake which then means that you lose control. More and more experienced bowlers have restricted their back-swing so as to maintain their control.
A proper back-swing begins as soon as you have done your push-away and must be swung straight back. Do not make the mistake of swinging the ball around your hips.
Some bowlers seem to practically abandon their back-swing altogether. Their method is to execute the push-away, holding the ball at their side, then they speed up a little, slide to a stop and then simply let the ball continue on.
Generally speaking the proper method of bowling is to not allow your back-swing to be higher than your shoulders which, because you are bending somewhat, are lower.
It is vital that you are not without control of the back-swing and you should not swing the ball higher than your shoulder level.
As mentioned above, some bowlers prefer as short a back-swing as possible. By doing so they have discovered that besides giving them less hook, it also produces a better roll of the ball. Because of the alleys today it is preferable to achieve less hook without preventing the ball from reaching the pocket, and a shorter back-swing definitely helps in this regard.
The proper follow-through
Many guides that offer bowling tips also include tips for the follow-through. A good tip is to try to be as natural as you can when it comes to this aspect of bowling. Let your arm do what it wants to do. You will notice that your arm’s motion will stop with your hand either right in front of your eyes, or slightly to the right.
Once you have released the ball try to do a direct pull-up. By using this method for the follow-through you will find that you will be less likely to cross the ball over your body, and less likely to pull it. This technique also enables you to release the ball in front of yourself, which is important of course.
Although some bowlers prefer not to utilize much of a follow-through they do prevent their arm from going any higher. This method suits their way of bowling. To execute it they use a right leg kick and then balance using their extended left arm.
Over the past few years there has been a noticeable increase of unconventional follow-throughs. There are those who deliberately seem to cross the ball over their bodies. Others finish with their right arm so near to their left ear that it looks as though they are holding onto it. Some bowlers end with their arms extended out to the side. And then there are the bowlers who stop at the foul line, arm stretched above their heads and appear as if posing before a bunch of photographers.
Whereas the experts might use unconventional methods they do so because they know what to do.
Finally, there remains one more helpful tip. When you are about to release the ball focus on the target you want the ball to hit and do not lose focus too soon. Continue focusing on the target until you have executed your follow-through. By doing so you will minimize your tendency to cross your body with your arm.
For you to enhance your back-swing as well as your follow-through you should follow the above-mentioned tips.
