Isle of Man Travel Guide
The Isle of Man is a small island located between Great Britain and Ireland. In spite of its size, though, it offers various tourist attractions and activities, all of which serve as excellent reasons to go on Isle of Man holidays.
The Laxey Wheel
Built in 1854, the Laxey Wheel or Lady Isabella is one of two waterwheels on the Isle of Man – the other one being the Snaefell Wheel or Lady Evelyn – and is also the largest working waterwheel in existence. Because of this, it is a popular tourist attraction. It is also located next to the Laxey Woolen Mill and the Great Laxey Mine Railway.
Steam Trains
Have you ever wished you could ride a steam train? If so, you’ll be happy to know that the Isle of Man has two operational steam railways, although the Great Laxey Mine Railway is open only on Saturdays and bank holidays. Indeed, you can definitely experience riding a steam locomotive during your Isle of Man holidays, complete with the smoke and the sound of the whistle.
Motorsport
Are you a lover of motorsport? If so, you shouldn’t have any second thoughts in booking your Isle of Man holidays since the Isle of Man is the site of the world-famous TT road races, which are held annually in the months of May and June. Even if you’re not a motorsport fan, you’re still bound to get carried away by the heart-pumping action and the festive atmosphere.
Birdwatching
Birdwatching is a popular tourist activity on the Isle of Man so be sure to pack your binoculars when you go on Isle of Man holidays. Indeed, the island is a haven for many species of birds, including the Purple sandpiper, the Little tern and the Hen harrier.
Scuba Diving
There are many diving clubs on the Isle of Man, which gives tourists the chance to see the spectacular underwater wildlife around the island. There are many shipwrecks to explore, too, although some are privately owned by local clubs or protected by the government.
Golf
There are nine picturesque golf courses on the Isle of Man, each with a different style and presenting a different challenge. The most popular is the Castletown Golf Links which was once included in Golf World Magazine’s list of top 100 golf courses of the world. The Ramsey Golf Course is a good choice, too.
Museums
Last, but not the least, there are various museums you can tour while on the island, such as the Grove Museum and the Manx Museum. These museums offer some unique and interesting exhibits so your Isle of Man holidays can be educational as well as exciting and memorable.
